Introduction
Anyone who’s been in Web3 for a while understands the hassle of switching between multiple wallets just to perform something as basic as a transaction, often because one or both wallets don’t support the required chain.
This issue is especially common within the Cardano ecosystem, where most native wallets support only the Cardano chain. Lace 2.0 positions itself as a solution to this fragmentation, offering a more unified and practical wallet experience for an increasingly multi-chain Web3 environment.
What Is Lace 2.0?
It’s been a long time coming. The first announcement for Lace 2.0 was unveiled in March 2025 via the official roadmap, and users have waited patiently since then.
Now, just over a year later, Lace 2.0 is here. The evolution of the original lightweight Lace browser wallet, launched in 2023, has finally arrived.
With this upgrade, Lace has been transformed into a multi-chain, mobile-supported, and more secure platform. This marks a significant milestone and the beginning of a new chapter in its journey.
What’s New in Lace 2.0?
The update introduces several key features:
• Multi-chain support
• Midnight Network integration
• Mobile access (finally)
Multi-chain support: Lace 2.0 now supports both the Cardano and Bitcoin networks. This is one of the most important updates, as it removes the need to switch between wallets and creates a more seamless experience for users exploring cross-chain opportunities.
Midnight Network integration: Midnight, Cardano’s privacy sidechain, is now integrated into Lace. Users can interact with both shielded (private) and unshielded (public) addresses, offering greater flexibility for those who prioritize on-chain privacy.
Mobile access: This update is equally significant. Lace has been browser-only for nearly three years, and many users had given up on the idea of a mobile version. With this release, that demand has finally been met, opening the door to a broader user base.
My Experience Using Lace 2.0
I first learned about Lace 2.0 through posts from the official Lace X account (@lace_io). After reviewing the updates, I decided to test it myself.
For context, my experience was based entirely on the Android mobile app, currently available on the Google Play Store. At the time of writing, the iOS version is still under review.
Onboarding:
The onboarding process was smooth and straightforward. I was able to create a new wallet and import an existing one without any issues.
UI and UX:
The interface has a refreshed look, but remains intuitive. I was able to navigate core wallet features within minutes. Buttons were responsive, and transitions between sections felt seamless.
Multi-chain:
This is where I encountered some friction. It took me over 10 minutes to figure out how to switch between the Cardano and Bitcoin wallets. While I eventually found it, the feature could benefit from a more intuitive design.
Deposits and withdrawals:
I tested ADA deposits and withdrawals, and both worked without issue. I have not yet tested Bitcoin transactions but plan to update this once completed.
Why This Update Matters
Web3 has always been about giving users more control by removing intermediaries. Lace has supported this vision for years, and this update takes it further.
With features like Midnight integration and mobile access, Lace is expanding both its functionality and accessibility.
Adding Bitcoin support is also a strategic move. It not only improves onboarding for new users but also gives Cardano-native users access to Bitcoin’s growing DeFi ecosystem.
Conclusion
Lace 2.0 represents a major step forward for the Cardano ecosystem. With improved accessibility, stronger privacy options, and multi-chain functionality, it evolves from a simple wallet into a more comprehensive gateway into Web3.
While there are still areas to refine, this release marks meaningful progress toward a more unified and user-friendly experience.
